My Minnetonka Story: Jenni Pettersson

Jenni's Toubkal hike in her favorite pair of Hi Top Back Zip Boots

What’s your Minnetonka story? Minnetonka fan Jenni Pettersson of Gothenburg, Sweden sent us these amazing snapshots from her hike up Toubkal mountain in southwestern Morocco in her Minnetonka boots!

Jenni & her friends hiking to the top of Toubkal

Following a road trip through the Atlas Mountains, Jenni and her friends spontaneously decided to hike Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.  Since the hike is 13,671 feet (4,167 meters) Jenni and her friends spent over 9 hours hiking to the top, all while in her favorite pair of Minnetonka Hi Top Back Zip Boots! Jenni told us that at the end of her hike, her boots were a little dusty, and her legs were certainly tired, but her feet were happy thanks to her comfortable Hi Top Back Zip Boots!

Thanks Jenni for sharing your incredible Minnetonka story with us!

A little dusty from the hike but still comfy!

Minnetonka x Wren – Limited Edition Collaboration!

Is it fall yet? We can’t wait to share our new Fall Limited Edition collaboration with you right now – the Minnetonka x Wren moc!  Minnetonka collaborated with women’s ready-to-wear brand Wren, founded by former Vogue and W fashion editor, Melissa Coker, to create this classic style moc featuring luxe deerskin and metallic beading, available here for purchase for a limited time.

How did this partnership of two classic brands join forces you ask? Melissa’s love for Minnetonka began as a child growing up in the Midwest, spending summer vacations in Wisconsin. The  highlight of each trip for her was buying a new pair of Minnetonka moccasins. Fast forward to Fall of 2013, and Melissa worked with Minnetonka to develop this new take on the iconic Thunderbird moccasin, the style that started out her Minnetonka love affair as a young girl.

To unveil this exciting collaboration, we channeled our inner 1960’s free spirit girl and partnered with award-winning filmmaker, Maximilla Lukacs and the indie pop band, Guards, to create an exclusive acoustic music video of their song “Not Supposed To.” Maximilla shot in a style reminiscent of 1960’s documentary filmmaking, including the use of Super 8 film stock for super saturated colors, which make the Wren dresses worn by Guards’ Kaylie Church, pop alongside the Minnetonka x Wren Mocs.

DIY Project: How to Create Bold Embellished Boots

Minnetonka DIY Project by Courtney Kennedy of Always Rooney

Learn how to create bold embellished boots in this fun and colorful DIY created by Courtney Kennedy of Always Rooney!

And be sure to visit Always Rooney this week and enter to win your own pair of Suede Ankle Boots to DIY!

Supplies: Minnetonka Suede Ankle Boots, scrap pieces of colored leather, round studs, leather glue, scissors, paper and pen

1. Begin by folding your paper in half and drawing one side of the shape of your choice. Courtney chose a geometric aztec shape, as well as a diamond. Unfold the paper and cut around the lines. This will be your guide for cutting leather.

2. Trace shape on back of leather and cut.

3. Lay out leather in a pattern and glue with leather glue.

4. Finish by folding the prongs to the stud and glue to shoe. This adds a perfect subtle accent.

DIY Project: Leopard Kilty Mocs Remix

We were excited to feature a DIY for Colorblocked Laces created by Namrata of Land of Nams a couple weeks ago and asked Namrata to create a second DIY project for us try this summer!

This time Namrata set out to remix the look of her Leopard Kilty Mocs. She decided to compliment the style with a darker color (navy blue) to make them a bit more work-ready, perfect for casual Fridays at her office.

Step 1. Use extra wide masking tape under the fringe to protect the leopard pattern from paint.

Step 2. Carefully paint the fringe and bow. Namrata untied the bow to get a more thorough coating.

Step 3. Turn the shoes around and using free-hand, carefully paint the semi circle that covers the seams at the back.

Step 4. Let dry overnight. The next day you may find that you missed a spot so go over any gaping holes and let mocs dry another day.

Step 5. VOILA! Perfect to wear with some dark skinny jeans to work on a Friday!

Visit Land of Nams today and enter to win a pair of Leopard Kilty Mocs to DIY this summer!

Blogger Spotlight:  Jen Lula of Jen Loves Kev, along with her daughters Rowan & Finley

What’s your Minnetonka story?
I feel like I am a newbie in comparison to lots of people out there, but Minnetonka moccasins have been part of my daily style for the last couple years. I got my first pair when I was pregnant with my daughter Rowan and have been wearing them non stop since. So comfy and stylish. Perfect for a mom on the go!

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?
Classic with a vintage, edgy twist.

Whose style inspires you?
I find a lot of inspiration from the blogs I read. I love being inspired by real women!

What’s your favorite trend this season?
I will always be a fan of patterns! Especially stripes and polka dots. I am lucky because I think they will always be in style.

What song do you currently have on repeat?
My husband and I just went to see the reunion tour of The Postal Service. I can’t stop listening to that cd at the moment. So many memories attached with those songs. We have been listening to it for 10 years, it was the soundtrack of the summer we starting dating.

What’s your favorite city and why?
Boston! Oh man, I love that city! There is so much history and character. I love that it isn’t too huge, but has so many great neighborhoods to explore. Nothing beats a warm summer night, strolling the streets of Boston and holding hands with my husband. Well, going to a Bruins game is a close second!

My Minnetonka must-have item is… the El Paso Suede Mocs in taupe are my favorite! They go with everything and are so easy to slip on and head out the door.
