Store Spotlight: Lucy’s Clothing & Shoes

Minnetonka Store Spotlight: Lucy’s Clothing & Shoes  5715 Cowrie  Sechelt, BC V0N 3A0 Canada

Lucy’s Clothing & Shoes is located on the Sunshine Coast peninsula in beautiful Sechelt, British Columbia. Meet store owner Nancy Palmer-Moore in our Q&A along with sales staff Allie Amberg, Amber Higgins, Nicole Lumley, Lindyn Williams and Jessica Hemingway.

What’s your Minnetonka story?
Lucy’s Clothing and Shoes has proudly carried Minnetonka since 2010. We live in a small, locally driven community, set against lush West Coast surroundings. The natural bohemian nature of Minnetonka is a perfect fit for our lifestyle.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
Our most popular style remains the classic Kilty moc. Its effortless vibe can’t be beat!

Along with being the first choice for our customers, the Kilty moc remains the staff favourite as well. The supple rubber bottom and soft suede are great for wearing before, during, after work and any place in between.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka mocs?
Minnetonka mocs are incredibly versatile. We love them styled with a great pair of lived in boyfriend jeans and your softest white tee, or cozied up with a flirty floral dress and your best oversized knit sweater.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
During the warmer months, the Sunshine Coast transforms into an outdoor playground. Whether it be paddle boarding our coastline, or hiking through any of our well loved trails (Smuggler’s Cove, Skookumchuck Narrows, Mt. Daniel to name a few) you’re sure to find your own little piece of paradise.  And your Minnetonka mocs will be right there with you, along for the ride!

Craftsmanship + Color: Limited Edition Thunderbird II Moc

Our iconic Thunderbird II moccasins have been infused with a fresh, citrus hue. These limited edition nectarine mocs are the must-have accessory for every summer adventure. They feature the same quality and hand construction everyone’s come to love.

A few weeks ago we got the chance to see how these handcrafted beauties begin.

It all starts with the best materials around. Quality, suede leather is cut with steel dies.

Each piece will become part of our iconic moccasin. The only way these reach our feet is by hand, which makes each pair totally unique.

Here the collar is expertly stitched. Hand sewing ensures an attention to detail unlike any other.

Next it’s time to sew the sporty sole to the moc. These rubber bottoms are key to comfort. They bend and flex with every step.

Hand lacing closes the moccasin around its round toe, which features our iconic hand-beaded Thunderbird detail.

Handcraftsmanship and a distinctive style meets a fun, new color. Pair these limited edition nectarine mocs with skinny jeans, skirts or shorts for a stylish, summer look.

Georgia Pellegrini’s Adventure Getaway

Recently I have been thinking a lot about my close girlfriends and how important those relationships are to me. When I look back over the years I realize I met so many of them during those unforgettable bonding experiences that life brings your way.

There is a lot that I love about the Adventure Getaways for women that I’ve been doing over the last two years, but my hands down favorite thing is watching women come together from across the country, meet each other for the first time and leave at the end of the experience as lifelong friends.

This April I had the honor of taking a group of lovely ladies up to Destination Kohler in Kohler, WI for one of my Adventure Getaways. These women came from near and far to ditch their regular day to day and challenge themselves to be more fearless, step outside their comfort zone and try new things that they had in some cases never done before.

We got up close with nature as I taught them all about hunting, fishing and clay shooting; and then taught them about all the parts of our food that we normally discard but that are actually delicious. The next step was to put it all in context and have a cooking class together.

Destination Kohler is a playground for outdoor adventure. One of my favorite moments was our mystical hike on the trails that took us through the entire property.

And after the outdoor adventure, the delicious meals that fueled us onward, from parfaits, to venison roasts, to the most delectable desserts.  Because after all, a girl’s gotta have a French macaroon bar before she hunts!

But ultimately it was the down time, the moments in the conservatory and around the fire while roasting s’mores that fueled the great conversations that bonded us forever.

I had a wonderful time showing these brave women the ropes of the wild.  Sometimes we just need a break from our normal routine to get back in touch with nature and ourselves. I know I always have great experiences on the Getaways, and know my fearless guests left with some stories to tell and friendships that will last a lifetime.

If you’re feeling a need to step out of the hustle and bustle and get some dirt under your fingernails, join me on my next Adventure Getaway. This October, we’re taking Montana by storm!

Mamas & Babes: Kelli Murray and Rylee

Happy Mother’s Day!  To celebrate we asked each of the lovely boho beauties featured in our new ‘Mamas & Babes’ lookbook to share with us a few of their favorite moments of motherhood.

Kelli Murray and daughter Rylee

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from being a mom?
To be flexible.   Things don’t always go exactly as planned, you have to learn to go with the flow.

What’s your favorite activity to do together?
Draw.  Rylee has grown up watching me paint / draw (I work as an illustrator and graphic designer).  She could draw with me for hours.

What’s the best part of being a mom?
The immense joy she brings to my life.

What’s one lesson you learned from your mother?
In regards to parenting, my mom has taught me to always confirm individual worth and beauty.   Each of us was created with a unique purpose.  She taught me to believe that in myself, and I want to do the same with my daughter.  Encouraging her in her strengths and affirming her worth.

What’s the best piece of advice you could give?
Early on, when I was struggling with the balance between work and motherhood, I remember reading that it was less about balance and more about “the juggle”.  Finding balance somehow implies that everything will be perfect one day and that we will come to a place where we have “everything figured out”.  The juggle however, is learning how to make it work within our own situations.  It’s a constant challenge and it’s not always pretty, but somehow, you make it work.

I’ve slowly learned to let go of  the unrealistic expectations I put on myself to “do it all”.  I do the best I can with each day and try to remember that that my best is enough.

What’s been the most memorable moment so far?
Holding her in my arms for the first time.  I’m not sure if anything will beat that.

Share your favorite part of motherhood.
The overwhelming and unconditional love that they bring.  It’s hard to remember my life prior to having my daughter.  But I know for sure that she has filled my life with so much more joy and fulfillment than I ever thought possible.
