Blogger Spotlight:  Katie of Modern Eve

What’s your Minnetonka story?
I was actually introduced to Minnetonka recently after discovering the infant fringe bootie. They’re the cutest thing ever and make a great baby shower gift. When I saw them in the adult-version, I knew I had to have my own pair.

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?
Modern and feminine (but not girlie) with a side of boho and an occasional edge.

Whose style inspires you?
Olivia Palermo, Jennifer Aniston, Julie Sirinana (Sincerely, Jules) and Blair Eadie (Atlantic-Pacific).

What’s your favorite trend this season?
Pattern mixing – floral on floral, stripes on stripes, tribal patterns mixed with polka dots. Anything goes right now and I love all the options to be creative.

What song do you currently have on repeat?
The Lumineers’ entire album, but especially Ho Hey. It’s one of those instantly-makes-you-happy songs. They were just here in Dallas and played their new untitled song (likely to be called Falling in Love) – that will definitely be on repeat once it’s released.

What’s your favorite city and why?
San Francisco. It’s a large city with a lot of culture, delicious food and beautiful scenery. And being only a short drive to Big Sur and Napa Valley makes it an ideal vacation spot.

My Minnetonka must-have item is…
The Classic Fringe Boot. They go with everything, are easy to slip on and are so comfortable. I’ve been living in them this spring.

What’s your Minnetonka story?
Not too far off from Molly’s story, her friend Annie started sporting the Deerskin Soft T Mocs to high school and we both became instantly obsessed.  Annie is a good friend of both of ours, despite her being in Molly’s grade.  She has always been a trendsetter and has a way of dressing that is both classic and cool.  Annie introduced us to many stylish things in high school, and Minnetonka was one of them.

I have gone through at least three pairs of moccasins since my very first pair in high school and will never stop replacing them.  It’s a tried and true shoe that I can wear year round and know I will always be comfortable in.

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?
Classic, yet feminine

Whose style inspires you?
I find my inspiration through browsing style images on Pinterest and through visiting some of my favorite blogs.  Whether its a new way to braid my hair, a pair of sunglasses, or colored denim – I am constantly inspired by the stylish people on Pinterest and blogs.

As far as celebrities, I will always consider Gwyneth Paltrow to be my style icon.  She manages to dress casual and not overdone, yet still looks great every single time.  She just seems to be so relatable in the fact that she doesn’t look like she’s spent hours getting ready every morning.  Because who actually does that anyway?!

What’s your favorite trend this season?
I am obsessed with jackets and blazers of all kind right now. Don’t know if that’s necessarily a “trend” this season, but its one of those things that I can’t seem to get enough of.  They are so practical and can be worn with everything from shorts, to jeans, to dresses and skirts.  Our Texas weather can be crazy and across the board so often times I leave the house in a jacket that I eventually end up shedding as the day goes on and the temperatures go up!  As far as I’m concerned, you can never have enough good looking jackets in your closet.

What song do you currently have on repeat?
Dave Matthews “Celebrate We Will.”  I am a huge Dave fan and kind of get the chills every time anything of his comes on the radio.

What’s your favorite city and why?
Seaside, Florida.  We grew up going to the candy-colored beach town in the panhandle of Florida as children, and now my boyfriend and I go together each year.  There is something magical about that place and it draws me in each and every time we visit.  The carefree and happy lifestyle of Seaside is truly unlike any other.

My Minnetonka must-have item is… Gosh, this is a tough one.  Probably my Tramper Ankle Hi Boots.  I just love how versatile they are and how they can instantly change an outfit. They can dress down a dress or skirt and look just as good thrown on with leggings and a sweatshirt for running around town on the weekend.  The comfort level is top notch, too.  They are one of those shoes that I wish I owned in every color because I really do wear them that much. Lately, with our cooler Dallas weather, I have been pairing them with white jeans.  My boyfriend told me that he didn’t realize they were “year round shoes”.  Yes, yes indeed they are.

What’s your Minnetonka story?

When I was in high school (a sophomore I think) my friend Annie started wearing a pair of Deerskin Soft-T moccasins to school.  Annie had – and still has – really amazing, effortless style and I instantly wanted to copy her.  Because we went to an all-girls Catholic school and we had to wear uniforms every day, one of the few ways to really distinguish yourself was with your shoes.  I asked Annie’s permission to get the same moccasins as her and she pointed me towards the Minnetonka website.  I don’t think I can ever forget how cool I felt wearing the moccasins for the first time.  They were comfortable but so classically cool, too.

I wore my Deerskin Soft-T mocs for years until the soles came detached and I tripped over them and fell on my face (true story) my senior year of college.  After the falling incident my dad decided it was time for me to get a new pair and I sent him the link to the shoes on Minnetonka.  There aren’t a lot of shoes that you can buy and wear for years that still look good and hold up to wear and tear… I have so many memories attached to those deerskin guys and still wear them today!

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?

Comfortable and classic with wanna-be edge.

Whose style inspires you?

Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow are definitely two style icons in my book.  I like that their day-to-day look is all about jeans, comfortable tees, classic sunnies, cool shoes and bags and that they can glam it up when they need to.  You see a street style photo of one of them and you don’t know if it’s recent or from years ago – that their style has evolved but not changed is what inspires me most.

I find inspiration for dressing myself from street style photography and fashion bloggers. There are a few bloggers whose style really aligns with my own and I try to copy-cat. Pinterest was such a game-changer for finding wardrobe inspiration and discovering new bloggers for me.  After months of pinning you start to get an idea of what your aesthetic is, just by looking at the overall picture of what you pin.  I love that.

What’s your favorite trend this season?

Black and white.  It’s a trend that’s not trendy!  One I can totally get behind investing in.  I also like the use of tech materials like neoprene (for clothes) and plastics (for accessories) – I don’t know if I could pull off the look but it sure is fun to look at!

What song do you currently have on repeat?

“Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker.  The original by Old Crow Medicine Show was the theme song to my college years and it brings back the most incredible memories. Darius’ single feels so right for this time of year – a song you want to play on the weekends with the windows rolled down, you know?

What’s your favorite city and why?

This question makes me realized how much traveling I need to do!  I love Austin, Texas.  It’s just three-hour car drive from Dallas and it feels like you’ve gone outside the state when you visit… It’s so eclectic – in terms of the people, shopping, restaurants, and lifestyle – and there’s a rich music and nightlife scene that’s unreal.  Unlike a lot of other cities in Texas, Austin has so much to do outside of shopping, drinking, and eating.  Lots of outdoor activities… And that includes music festivals SXSW and ACL!

My Minnetonka must-have item is… I love my Deerskin Soft-T mocs but I think my new must-have item is the Tramper Ankle Hi boot.  It’s such a year-round shoe and I’ve worn mine with everything from jeans and leggings to skirts and dresses.  I like to leave my laces undone for an un-fussy look.

What’s your Minnetonka story?

My parents bought me my first pair of Minnetonka slippers last Christmas and a day hasn’t passed since then that they haven’t been on my feet for at least a few minutes. They’re the first things I put on when I wake up.

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?

Unfussy.

Whose style inspires you?

I’m inspired by confident women who can make inexpensive items look like a million bucks….and Emma Stone, who could wear a colorful garbage bag and get me to buy one.

What’s your favorite trend this season?

As a redhead, I’m happy that emerald green is the color of the year.

What song do you currently have on repeat?

Macklemore’s ‘Thrift Shop’ – it’s a guilty pleasure that makes me smile, and it’s a great song to run along with.

What’s your favorite city and why?

San Francisco, which is where I grew up, because I love its down-to-earth vibe. It’s also home to my favorite restaurants, thrift stores, and my best friend.

My Minnetonka must-have item is…the Smooth Leather Moc. Comfy, cute, and versatile!

What’s your Minnetonka story?

A Minnetonka addict since elementary school, I clearly remember wearing white Thunderbirds with everything. Now well into adulthood, I’ve since expanded my Minnetonka collection. True story: I auditioned for Twilight wearing a pair of Minnetonka boots and got two call-backs, which were the biggest auditions of my life. Every time I wear my fringe boots something lucky happens to me.

My Minnetonka love has trickled down to the rest of my family: my son got a pair ages ago and I’ve already picked out two pairs of Minnetonka mocs for my daughter.

Chris has been talking about getting a pair of moccasins for as long as I’ve known him, but because he works a corporate job, he’s not entirely sure traditional moccasins would fit in with his work culture. Luckily Minnetonka has styles (like the Chukka boot!) that give guys like Chris the best of both worlds.

If you could explain your style in one word or phrase what would it be?

multifarious/hilarious (my style is eclectic, but I always try to wear at least one item that would make a stranger smile)

Whose style inspires you?

I’m mainly inspired by nostalgia. I love things that remind me of my childhood or my grandma. I find a lot of inspiration in old yearbooks and photographs. I’m also an unashamed Pinterest addict, so I find a lot of great bloggers through that and get inspired by what others are putting together.

What song do you currently have on repeat?

I’ve been listening to “Hey Jude” pretty much constantly since Oct. 2010

What’s your favorite city and why?

Perhaps I’m a tad biased, but I think Austin, Texas is one of the best cities in the United States. It’s a city large enough to never be bored in but small enough to run into someone you know every time you go to the grocery store. Plus everyone here has a great sense of bohemian/ rocker style.

My Minnetonka must-have item is… Anything with fringe!
