What was your first pair of Minnetonka mocs?

When did you receive your first pair of Minnetonka mocs?
Each year either my Mother or my Grandmother would take me to an adorable set of shops in Nisswa, MN to go shopping for the day. There were stores with trinkets, clothes, hardware, games, candy, ice cream and, well I could go on. One of my favorite shops is called The Totem Pole, it’s still there today, and they sell little toys, moccasins and other goods.

My Mother would walk around in white leather Minnetonka Thunderbirds all the time and as all little girls do, they want to be just like their moms. I would get new ones each year as I grew to match hers and they were always in white. I thought white was the most girly because there weren’t pink ones then, even though I’d run around and get them dirty all the time.

What is your favorite memory involving your Minnetonka moccasins?
My Grandmother has always been a great teacher of all things natural; one of my favorite things to do with her every year was go blueberry picking and my moccasins were always leading the way. We’d drive up to Northern Minnesota and slowly crawl down the dirt trails to beautiful mossy tree groves and pick them wild. We even met up with a few curious bears from time to time and would quickly rustle to the car! On the way out of the trail she’d stop and point out animal tracks in the dirt. We’d end up with buckets full and would make jams, syrups and yummy pancakes.

How far have you and your Minnetonka mocs traveled?
I haven’t traveled far and wide, but my favorite places to wear my moccasins have always been right in my backyard. We lived right on the Mississippi River and had a small lake home up North, so I’d always be tromping around in the dirt or playing in the sand; what else is a girl with three brothers to do! I love exploring parks and hiking trails in my moccasins.

Describe your Minnetonka style.
During the week I like to go more vintage for work and my mocs help add comfort, texture, color and style. On the weekend I like to dress more boho earthbound and my mocs keep me going on my adventures of thrifting or exploring outdoors. You can dress them up or dress them down and they’re perfect with jeans or a pretty dress.

What was your first pair of Minnetonka mocs?
I don’t remember my first pair of Minnetonka moccasins because I received them when I was a baby! But I do remember having a beautiful pair with pink leather and rhinestones as a child that I just loved.

When did you receive your first pair of Minnetonka mocs?
As a child, my family went on summer vacations to Maine. There was a “trading post” type store that we would go to and get our Minnetonka mocs! Now I buy my Minnetonka mocs twice a year, when my family and I go away for weekends in May and September to Cape May, NJ. There’s a leather store that sells Minnetonka products. In the spring, I usually pick up a sandal and in the fall I get a new pair of moccasins, it’s the highlight of my trip!

What is your favorite memory involving Minnetonka moccasins?
One of my favorite memories involving Minnetonka is from last summer, when I was helping my mom pick out what to wear as a guest to a wedding she was going to. She wasn’t sure what kind of shoes to wear, but then we remembered she had a pair of tan leather moccasins, which she called her “dressy moccasins.” They were perfect for the beach wedding!

How far have you and your Minnetonka mocs traveled?
I went to college in Philadelphia and I walked A LOT. I walked miles a day, which was tough on my feet. I practically lived in my moccasins. I had a tan suede pair, a red pair, and a blue pair with beads (that I took from my mom!). I wore them all frequently in the fall, winter, and spring. They were the most reliable and comfortable shoes for the lifestyle I had in Philly!

Describe your Minnetonka style.
I wear Minnetonka mocs with everything. I love wearing my red mocs with quirky socks and jeans. I love that they can be dressed up, too, and go with tights and a sweater dress for fall. I even wear a pair of black leather Minnetonkas to my part-time job as a tour guide at a living history farm. I dress in period-appropriate 1890s clothes and I wear the shoes with knee-highs! They have held up through a lot of farm work and they’re easily the most comfortable part of my work uniform.

What was your first pair of Minnetonka mocs?
They were a pair of Sheepskin Hardsole Slippers. I wear them all the time!

When did you receive your first pair of Minnetonka slippers?
My mom gave them to me for Christmas in 2009.  It was my first Christmas away from home–I was spending it in Georgia with my husband’s family.  My parents always wore moccasins around the house, and having my own pair helped ease my homesickness and made me feel closer to them.

What is your favorite memory involving your Minnetonka slippers?
I brought my Minnetonka slippers with me to the hospital when I had my son this last spring.  They helped me feel at home and comfortable during a huge transition in my life!  I wore them to walk laps around the MotherBaby unit and they made my feet happy even though the rest of me was pretty sore.

How far have you and your Minnetonka mocs traveled?
My Minnetonka mocs haven’t traveled far, but that’s what I love about them–they make me feel at home and comfortable! My feet have stayed warm and cozy through every frigid Idaho winter since I’ve had them.

Describe your Minnetonka style.
I’ve added the pair of Hi Top Back Zipper Boots in this picture to my wardrobe and I love how they take a casual outfit and add a little interest!  They’re perfect for every season and make me feel pretty without being over the top.  I love how versatile they are–I wear them for errands around town, but also out on dates with my husband.  And of course I still wear my Sheepskin Hardsole slippers around my house while I’m rocking my baby to sleep, too!

What was your first pair of Minnetonka boots?
My 5 layer fringe boots were my first and are still my favorite pair of Minnetonkas, they are my go-to shoes. When in doubt, I go to the 5 layer fringe boots.

Where were your first pair of Minnetonka boots purchased?
My first pair were a gift from my lovely best friend for my 21st birthday.  Her dad owns this awesome boot store in Austin TX called Allens Boots and she got them for me from there. If you are ever in Austin be sure to poke your head in that store, its mostly cowboy boots but they have a nice little selection of Minnetonkas!

What is your favorite memory involving your Minnetonka boots?
I wore my 5 layer fringe boots to an event in downtown Tucson for dia de los muertos. That night at least 5 different people came up up to me and wanted to pet my boots, as if they were shaggy dogs. This one guy was even speaking to them in the voice that you would talk to the cutest puppy in, ” hi little booties!” It was bizarre but it happens all the time to me!

How far have you and your Minnetonka mocs traveled?
My 8 (almost 9 waiting on the 3 layer fringe boots in wine currently in the mail) pairs of mocs have traveled with me everywhere! Every road trip, every overnight, I always have a pair with me. My mocs have gone everywhere with me from Tucson, to LA, to Chicago, to Austin. They have braved the craziness of Lollapalooza, and walked the streets of 6th in Austin TX for South by Southwest.

Describe your Minnetonka style.
Minnetonkas are definitely my go-to shoes, the Kilty mocs when its in the high 90′s outside and I’m going to be exploring the city of Chicago running from train to train. I’ve even covered my brown Kilty’s with rhinestones to make them a little more ME. The extra shine goes a long way. I wear my mocs with everything from short dresses in the summer, to tights and layers in the winter.  They go with everything, you can never go wrong.  I am a devoted Minnetonka fan and they will always be my favorite go-to shoes.

What was your first pair of Minnetonka moccasins?
My first pair were the Kilty Suede mocs and they continue to be my very favorite shoe!

Where were your first pair of Minnetonka mocs purchased?
My moc’s were a gift from my sweet and very thoughtful father in law a few years ago. I’d been eyeing them for months, and he heard me mention them just once and bought me a pair. He even guessed the right size! I love my mocs for lot’s of reasons, but the main one is that they always make me think of my husband’s fantastic Dad. Anytime I wear them somewhere out of the ordinary I send him a picture text with a caption that reads “the Mocs are in ______ today!”

What is your favorite memory involving your Minnetonka mocs?
My husband and I we’re canoeing in Idaho last summer, and of course I was wearing my trusty mocs when our canoe capsized! We swam to shore and it wasn’t until later that evening when I took off my mocs that I realized they’d dyed my feet camel brown! It was a battle scar I was proud of.

How far have you and your Minnetonka mocs traveled?
My Minnetonka mocs have been to nearly every national forest in the Western United States! They’ve logged lots of miles of walking, hiking, kayaking, camping, and biking through the big ones like Yellowstone, Moab, Zions, and the Grand Canyon. They are a constant in my backpack to switch out of tennis shoes or hiking boots as soon as we set up camp. My little mocs have been through quite a lot, but they’ve held up- those little troopers!

Describe your Minnetonka style.
I would say my style is tom boy-boho. The thing I love about Minnetonka is they can take a tom-boy style boho and a boho style tom-boy. If I’m wearing a feminine maxi dress my mocs make it a little more rough and tumble. And if I’m wearing shorts and a band tee my mocs give the look a more 70′s vibe.
