Today we are excited to spotlight Spruce Hurricane on the Minnetonka Store Spotlight.  Check out our Q&A with owner Amber Dalton to learn more about Spruce Hurricane and their Minnetonka story!

What is your Minnetonka story?
The history of Spruce Hurricane and Minnetonka began with my grandparent’s trading post in the small western Maine town of Waterford. They carried the line long before I can remember, and it was always at staple at their store, Kimball’s Trading Post. Years later in June of 1992, my mom and I opened our store Spruce Hurricane. The concept was to combine my grandparents 50+ year history with upscale fashions and accessories, melding the wilderness with sophistication.

What are the most popular Minnetonka styles at Spruce Hurricane?
In our area moose are an icon of sorts, so Minnetonka moosehide moccasins are a top seller for both men and women. Being a fashionable store we love the fringed wedge boots and full leopard moccasins. It’s great to see a company like Minnetonka with long standing tradition being on the cutting edge of fashion. This is exactly our philosophy at Spruce Hurricane, a mix of classic traditions with fashionable flair.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka mocs and boots?
In our store Minnetonka mocs and boots might be paired with a skinny jean or leggings then topped with a blanket print sweater and turquoise jewelry. Fringed boots by Minnetonka look awesome with a tweed coat and fur hat. The mix of textures and styles is what we call mountain chic!

What are a few ‘must see’ destinations when visiting the North Conway area near Spruce Hurricane?
Our location is just over the Maine/New Hampshire border in the historic ski town of North Conway, NH. The Mount Washington Valley has so much to offer both residents and tourists with a bounty of outdoor activities including; hiking, ice and rock climbing, canoeing, top rated cross country and downhill skiing. In fact North Conway is the birthplace of alpine skiing in the US!

What’s your Minnetonka story?
We have been in business in Highland Park for 12 years and have always strived to carry brands that are both classic and exciting. Everything from sneakers and slip-ons to heels and boots, we have always worked to find the perfect options for our customers.

Since we’ve opened, Minnetonka has been a staple at our store.  The styles, construction, and value make the shoes a popular choice for our customers.  Luckily for us, Minnetonka has been able to provide us with several great styles throughout the years that our customers have always loved and I’m sure will continue to enjoy.

What are the most popular Minnetonka styles at ShoeFly?
The slip on moccasin in all colors and styles are always popular choices for us.  A lot of our customers like having an easy pair of shoes to throw on that still look nice.  Minnetonka moccasins fit the bill and have been in constant stock for us.

What is your favorite style of Minnetonka mocs to wear?
Our staff all have a few pairs of Minnetonka mocs that they enjoy.  But, our favorite pair has to be the slip-on moccasin.  You just can’t beat the simplicity and comfort!  We give the wedge boot and lined boots contentions for runner up.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka mocs or boots?
Right now, we like the brown ankle wedge boot with a pair of medium wash skinny jeans and a thick brown belt tied over a simple button down or flannel with a crew neck shirt underneath.  Just a simple and cute look for young women that is easy to pull together.

What are a few ‘must see’ destinations when visiting ShoeFly in Highland Park?
We are right in downtown Highland Park which is home to two very popular Chicagoland restaurants by the name of Lou Malnatti’s Pizzeria and Walker Bros Original Pancake House.  Two of our favorite local spots include Once upon a Bagel, a fantastic deli, and the BBQ Pit which has a wide array of BBQ options and classic Greek dishes.  In terms of entertainment, Highland Park is home to the Ravinia which hosts over a hundred shows from June to September.  They are famous for their open lawn venue and stellar acts which of recent include: Hall & Oates, Yo-Yo Ma, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Train. There is plenty more to see in Highland Park but you will have to come and see for yourself!

Ben and Kelli in their favorite Minnetonka styles!

Minnetonka Store Spotlight:  Winnebago Gift Shop 226 Broadway Wisconsin Dells, WI.

The Winnebago Gift Shop in Wisconsin Dells is owned and operated by husband and wife team Ben Borcher and Kelli Trumble.  Ben is a fourth generation retailer in the Dells and he and Kelli also own Alpha Beta Karma boutique (located on the same block as The Winnebago), which carries Minnetonka’s most fashion-forward styles. Check out our Q&A with Ben and Kelli to learn more about Winnebago Gift Shop including their Minnetonka story!

What’s your Minnetonka story?
The Winnebago is a landmark gift store that’s been in operation in Wisconsin Dells since 1949. We’re located in a historic building, circa 1860, in the downtown river shopping district. Generations have made their annual pilgrimage to our store to pick up a new pair of Minnetonka mocs. This started way back when the community was simply a popular Midwest summer vacation destination, but now the Dells are busy year-round thanks to its status as the “waterpark capital of the world.”

We have carried Minnetonka moccasins from the first day we opened.  You might say Minnetonka has helped define us and vice versa.

What are the most popular Minnetonka styles at Winnebago Gift Shop?
We have such a long history with Minnetonka that we can tell you, hands down, the most popular style over the years are the moosehide moccasins.

What is your favorite style of Minnetonka mocs to wear?
For Kelli, it’s whatever is hip and high style – she favors the calf-high double fringe boots with a wedge heel and the new full leopard print moccasin.  For me, I’m a traditionalist – give me a brown suede driving moc any day.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka mocs or boots?
Again, Kelli and I go our separate ways on this.  She likes to style hers as any true fashion plate would – with a designer dress and lots of accessories for trips to New York and Chicago.  I, on the other hand, wear mine with jeans and a casual shirt.  Kelli and I are the classic high-low pair if ever there was one and it works!

What are a few ‘must see’ destinations when visiting the Wisconsin Dells near Winnebago Gift Shop?
When in Wisconsin Dells, be sure to take a scenic tour of the Wisconsin River – the sandstone bluffs are amazing.  Of course, a visit to a waterpark is mandatory.  For foodies, stroll two doors down from our store to the High Rock Café, where the seasonal menus are the best.
