Store Spotlight: Bucketheads

Bucketheads of Abilene, TX owned and operated by the Nicholson family!

Minnetonka Store Spotlight: Bucketheads at Mall of Abilene, Abilene, TX

Bucketheads opened their doors in November of 2009, and have been growing ever since.
This country store is family owned and operated by Stace and Nancy Nicholson, along with their daughter Natalie. Daughters Lindsie and Alex are also a huge part of the store.

What is your Minnetonka story?
Our story with Minnetonka started a year ago with our oldest daughter, Lindsie.  Lindsie lives in a big college town that follows the latest trends, she came home one weekend talking about these popular “fringe boots” she insisted we carry at Bucketheads. Once we realized these “fringe boots” were Minnetonka we were on board!

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka boots?
Wedges!  We love wedges; they go so well with jeans, palazzo pants, basically anything and are super comfortable.  I personally like the ease of throwing them on to dress up an outfit.  Perfect for date night or an easy shoe to wear at work.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
We all share a favorite around here at Buckethead’s and that is the 5-Layer Fringe boot in any color.  We all have a unique style but one thing that remains a constant is the 5-Layer Fringe boot. Some of our employees even schedule certain days that they all wear them together!

How do you like to style your Minnetonka mocs or boots?
Around here if the weather gets below a certain temperature, it is almost certain you will see girls wearing tights, with over-sized shirts, and fringe boots. This is by far the most popular way to wear Minnetonka mocs or boots in the fall.  During the warmer days it is almost just as certain you will see girls wearing them with shorts or a cute little sun dress; either way the looks are easy, comfortable, and all over West Texas country.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
Coined the “great city of West Texas” by railroad official Jay Stoddard Johnston.  We are a rowdy frontier town, established by cattlemen, with lots of fun little quirks and shops. You can see the beautiful flat lands of Abilene, feed the giraffes at our zoo, or you can visit the new and improved Frontier Texas in downtown; a museum that is interactive and fun for all ages.

We are known out here for some tasty grub, such as Perini Ranch Steak House, a home owned restaurant in beautiful Buffalo Gap, TX, Los Farolittos, an authentic Mexican hot spot and the Beehive, home owned with great ribeyes. We would love for you to visit and experience some of our annual entertainment such as, Rattlesnake Round Up, the West Texas fair and rodeo, and tons of boot scooting country concerts at the Lucky Mule.

Meet visual coordinator and buyer Brooke Pierce in our Q&A and learn more about Mahoney’s Outfitters of Johnson City, Tennesse.

What is your Minnetonka story?
Owned by Dan Mahoney, Mahoney’s has been in business for 53 years, starting out as an Army/Navy store and evolving into the premier outdoor store that it is today. Our store definitely has something for everyone!

As the times have changed, one thing has remained the same- Mahoney’s dedication to customer service and carrying the best brands!  This of course includes a 30 year partnership with Minnetonka.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The most popular Minnetonka style in our store would have to be either the Calf Hi 3-Layer Fringe Boot or the El Paso Suede Moc!

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs?
Personally, I LOVE the Calf Hi 3-Layer Fringe Boot in Brown Suede!  I have had these boots for over a year and they are just getting more comfortable. It is the perfect height to be worn with skirts and dresses or with skinny jeans and leggings… pretty much anything goes with these boots!  Several of the girls in our store have the 3-Layer Fringe Boots and we all style them a little different… but they always looks great!

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
We are fortunate to be surrounded by some excellent locations for food, entertainment and outdoor adventure!  Buffalo Mountain and Roan Mountain both offer excellent hiking trails, as well as mountain biking trails. We are less than an hour from multiple ski resorts and the area is surrounded by world-class whitewater for kayaking and rafting.

Deciding on a spot for lunch or dinner around Johnson City is  hard – we have so many amazing options!  Local staff favorites include El Charolais Mexican Taqueria, Scratch Brick Oven Pizza, Salt and Pepper and Buffalo Street Deli, just to name a few.  For great live music, the Down Home has become a mecca for music lovers in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Everything from Bluegrass, and Reggae, to Southern Rock can be found at venues around the area on any given night.

What is your Minnetonka story?
Minnetonka has been in our store for over a decade. What started as a small business of just a few basic moccasins has turned into one of our best sellers, with a variety of different styles and colors for men, women, and children.

From sandals, to casual slip ons, to boots, Minnetonka provides a variety of choices for each customer that enters our door. This American classic fits in perfectly with the style of our store.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The Leopard Kilty Moc is one of our best sellers. We find most of our customers buy these as a back to school gift for their daughters (seeing as we’re located relatively close to the local high-schools). Our smaller sizes always fly off the shelves.

A close second would be the 5-Layer Fringe Boot due to it’s fashionable, iconic look that appeals to many.

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs or boots?
They’re all great and have that unique look that everyone gravitates to, but if we had to narrow it down, it’d have to be the Classic Moc in dusty brown for men and the 5-Layer Fringe Boot in black for the ladies.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
We are very fortunate to be located in such a diverse area. The Great Falls of the Passaic River is a prominent waterfall of about 77 feet (23 m), and is located no more than 15 minutes away from our store.

Garret Mountain, our county’s major recreational area provides visitors with grass fields, several miles of walking and running trails, basketball courts, picnic areas, along with a breath-taking views of northern New Jersey and the New York City skyline. The sunset is a must-see here.

Meet owners Pamela Hopson and Francesco Fiore in our Q&A and learn more about North Standard Trading Post of Toronto!

What is your Minnetonka story?
We are a clothing and lifestyle shop for men and women that pays tribute to the North country that we value so much.  Our brands have to inspire emotions of simple and quality made pieces, as well as tell a great story.  Pamela has been wearing Minnetonka Moccasins for years, and has always loved their styling, comfort, and quality. Minnetonka was an easy choice for us because it fits our vision perfectly.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The Infant Fringe Bootie in tan and brown suede! These mocs fly off the shelves for the little ones and they also make the perfect gift for new moms and pops!

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs?
We love anything with the Thunderbird pattern. Not only does it tell a great story, it is a fun design on the footwear. We have the Thunderbird II and the Thunderbird Boat Moc in our store and although we love all the styles, these would be ranked as our favourites. We do also like when new styles come into play, for example, the Full Leopard Moc adds an awesome pop to our assortment.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka moccasins?
We love Minnetonka moccasins because you can wear them with anything! Right now, since the warm weather is hitting, we love pairing them with denim shorts and oversized loose knit sweaters. They really give that effortless, comfort-cool styling that we love to any outfit.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
We love our little nook of Toronto because it has a great community.  We are right in-between two wonderful neighbourhoods: Parkdale and Roncesvalles. Both are packed with independently owned shops, art galleries, coffee shops, and phenomenal restaurants. A few steps west of us is a destination for antique shopping with more than 10 antique and vintage stores jammed onto one block. We also love to spend our days off exploring High Park – Toronto’s largest public park – which is a short walk west of our store. It’s full of nature trails, ponds, wildlife, and a small zoo.
