Minnetonka Store Spotlight:  Berkshire General Store 25 Edison Drive, Wayne NJ, 07470

Today we’re excited to spotlight Berkshire General Store of Wayne, New Jersey a third generation, family owned business since 1972. Find out more about the Berkshire General Store in our Q&A below!

What is your Minnetonka story?
Minnetonka has been in our store for over a decade. What started as a small business of just a few basic moccasins has turned into one of our best sellers, with a variety of different styles and colors for men, women, and children.

From sandals, to casual slip ons, to boots, Minnetonka provides a variety of choices for each customer that enters our door. This American classic fits in perfectly with the style of our store.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The Leopard Kilty Moc is one of our best sellers. We find most of our customers buy these as a back to school gift for their daughters (seeing as we’re located relatively close to the local high-schools). Our smaller sizes always fly off the shelves.

A close second would be the 5-Layer Fringe Boot due to it’s fashionable, iconic look that appeals to many.

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs or boots?
They’re all great and have that unique look that everyone gravitates to, but if we had to narrow it down, it’d have to be the Classic Moc in dusty brown for men and the 5-Layer Fringe Boot in black for the ladies.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
We are very fortunate to be located in such a diverse area. The Great Falls of the Passaic River is a prominent waterfall of about 77 feet (23 m), and is located no more than 15 minutes away from our store.

Garret Mountain, our county’s major recreational area provides visitors with grass fields, several miles of walking and running trails, basketball courts, picnic areas, along with a breath-taking views of northern New Jersey and the New York City skyline. The sunset is a must-see here.

Meet owners Pamela Hopson and Francesco Fiore in our Q&A and learn more about North Standard Trading Post of Toronto!

What is your Minnetonka story?
We are a clothing and lifestyle shop for men and women that pays tribute to the North country that we value so much.  Our brands have to inspire emotions of simple and quality made pieces, as well as tell a great story.  Pamela has been wearing Minnetonka Moccasins for years, and has always loved their styling, comfort, and quality. Minnetonka was an easy choice for us because it fits our vision perfectly.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The Infant Fringe Bootie in tan and brown suede! These mocs fly off the shelves for the little ones and they also make the perfect gift for new moms and pops!

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs?
We love anything with the Thunderbird pattern. Not only does it tell a great story, it is a fun design on the footwear. We have the Thunderbird II and the Thunderbird Boat Moc in our store and although we love all the styles, these would be ranked as our favourites. We do also like when new styles come into play, for example, the Full Leopard Moc adds an awesome pop to our assortment.

How do you like to style your Minnetonka moccasins?
We love Minnetonka moccasins because you can wear them with anything! Right now, since the warm weather is hitting, we love pairing them with denim shorts and oversized loose knit sweaters. They really give that effortless, comfort-cool styling that we love to any outfit.

What are a few must see destinations near your store?
We love our little nook of Toronto because it has a great community.  We are right in-between two wonderful neighbourhoods: Parkdale and Roncesvalles. Both are packed with independently owned shops, art galleries, coffee shops, and phenomenal restaurants. A few steps west of us is a destination for antique shopping with more than 10 antique and vintage stores jammed onto one block. We also love to spend our days off exploring High Park – Toronto’s largest public park – which is a short walk west of our store. It’s full of nature trails, ponds, wildlife, and a small zoo.

Meet owner Skip Lower, and the store’s Minnetonka salesperson Carol Barboza, in our Q&A and learn more about The Indian Tepee Gift Shop of Bolton Landing on Lake George!

What is your Minnetonka story?
Our Minnetonka story dates back to 1960, when we first began carrying Minnetonka moccasins at our store.  It all started as a series of traditions for families each year.

Carol Barboza, our store’s Minnetonka expert, began selling moccasins in 1971. She has sold Minnetonka products to both children and parents alike. A Minnetonka fitting by Carol, who has watched the customers and their families grow and expand each year, is a notable experience in itself and is much of the reason we have been able to carry on this Minnetonka tradition across generations of families.

Now it is common to see four or five generations of customers being fit for new moccasins at the same time. We enjoy making our customers happy and ensuring they find a shoe that is both comfortable and stylish and that comes as the result of a tradition of visiting our store each year.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
The most popular moccasin style in our store is the Thunderbird Boat Moc in brown.

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs?
Carol’s favorite Minnetonka style is the 3-Layer Fringe Boot in black.

What are a few must see destinations when visiting Bolton Landing on Lake George?
One of our favorite things is to take a dinner cruise of Lake George on a local steamboat. While on the cruise, you’ll pass by 44 of our 170 islands where visitors camp. You will definitely see a variety of tents and lots of marshmallow toasting while passing the islands. Beside the many campers, you are sure to see many of the locals fishing and enjoying an evening boat ride. The evening sunsets are amazing to watch as they radiate beauty across the crystal waters of Lake George.

Store Spotlight: Zaiser’s

Zaiser's of Nisswa, Minnesota

Zaiser's wide selection of Minnetonka mocs, boots, sandals and slippers!

So many styles to choose from! Which style is your Minnetonka must-have?

Minnetonka Store Spotlight:  Zaiser’s 25425 Main Street Nisswa, MN 56468

Meet Zaiser’s manager Biff Ulm in our Q&A and learn more about Zaiser’s of Nisswa, Minnesota!

What is your Minnetonka story?
Zaiser’s has been in business since 1952, and Minnetonka Moccasin has been part of our store’s history since day one.  While styles and fashions have evolved over the years, our core values remain the same.  We believe in providing the best customer service available while having fun with our job and customers.  A large part of the experience we provide is rooted in tradition.  Families come back year after year, generation after generation.  This is a great honor and something we don’t take for granted.  We find many of the above values working with the wonderful staff at Minnetonka Moccasin.  We couldn’t be more proud to sell the Minnetonka line.

What is the most popular Minnetonka style in your store?
This year we have had a number of standout styles.  The Calf Hi 3 Layer Fringe Boot has been popular in the fall through winter.  As far as our number one style, any of the fashionable Kilty mocs have been amazing.  In 2012, the grey and mustard colors were the most popular.  This year, we are excited to show our customers the colorful selection of Boat Mocs!

What is your favorite pair of Minnetonka mocs?
Personally, it is hard to beat the feel and look of the Camp Moc.  It wears like iron and always looks new.  With a pair of dark jeans and a stylish tee, it makes the perfect “up-north” work uniform.  After work, they are as at home on the the lake as they are in the shop.

What are a few must see destinations when visiting Nisswa?
Nisswa is quite simply the best small town on the Planet.  We are located in the heart of the lake country and the premier location to shop in Minnesota. Over fifty unique shops line our Main Street. Many guests plan their entire stay around shopping.

When not in town, spending the afternoon on one of our hundreds of nearby lakes is a must.  One can fish or simply soak up the sun.  On our bigger lake chains, restaurants and bars are scattered across the shoreline making it a very social scene.

A large part of my free time is spent on the hundreds of miles of Bike Trails.  The Paul Bunyan trail is the king of them all.  Well over a hundred miles long, this multi use trail for walkers, runners, roller blades and cyclists is one of the best ways to tour the Nisswa Area. For more adventurous athletes, spinning along many of the back roads can offer additional sights as well as more challenging terrain.  In the winter, the trails turn into a snowmobile paradise.

No matter what your favorite activity is during the day, everyone can agree ending it with a good meal is a must.  There are tons of quality restaurants in the area.  My personal favorite in downtown Nisswa is Rafferty’s Pizza.  A casual yet upbeat vibe I always go for their Luck Chicken Pizza.  Topped with chicken and lingonberries it is a surprisingly tasty combination. Walk across the street to the Chocolate Ox for an ice cream cone after makes for the perfect end to any day.
