Merry and Bright Garland created by Chelsey from The Paper Mama
This is my absolute favorite time of the year. I love the crisp cold weather and all the sparkly decorations lining the streets and hanging in our homes. The last weekend in November is always our traditional “decorate all the things” time. We set up the tree, decorate the home, possibly wrap some presents, and yes… we start the Christmas movies and music.
To celebrate another exciting Holiday season, I made a “MERRY AND BRIGHT” garland to hang above my fireplace. I’ve shared how I made it below, plus included the free letter templates for you to make your own!
Step 1. Print out your free Merry and Bright template (see above)!
Step 2. Use scissors or an X-acto knife and cutting mat to cut out your letters.
Step 3. Paint on a layer of Mod Podge and sprinkle a layer of your fabulous super fine gold glitter. Note: don’t worry about the paper curling when you put the Mod Podge on. When the letters are dry, they can be easily flattened.
Step 4. Let the freshly glittered letters dry for 1 – 2 hours.
Step 5. Apply a second layer of Mod Podge, followed by the glitter. Let dry for another 1 – 2 hours.
Step 6. If needed, add bits of the Mod Podge to any spaces the glitter didn’t stick, and put more glitter on.
Step 7. Optional: Apply a coat of Mod Podge over the final glitter layer. That glitter will stick to everything and sealing it helps keep the amount of glitter falling in your home to a minimum. Let dry completely.
Step 8. Grab your bakers twine and measure out about 18 inches. This will be the starting point for your letters. Don’t cut it yet!
Step 9. Organize the letters in a stack (starting with m on top) and ending with the final letter of the phrase “t”. Flip the stack over so the back of the “t” is on top.
Step 10. Start gluing the back of the top portion of your letters to the starting point on your twine. Space the letters about 1/2 inch apart and the words about 2 – 3 inches apart.
Step 11. When you get to the “m” measure out 18 inches and cut your bakers twine.
Step 12. Hang and enjoy!
