Blogger Spotlight: Mom’s Best Network

Blogger Spotlight:  Tana from Mom’s Best Network

What’s your Minnetonka story?
For as long as I can remember I have been a fan. Minnetonka is a brand that has stood the test of time! As a family we own at least 10 pairs of Minnetonkas…and our collection is growing!

What inspired you to start Mom’s Best Network?
I have been involved in product design and development for the past 10 years within the children’s and baby industry through my own apparel and accessory brand.  Two years ago I had my fifth and final baby, at that point my life shifted I felt inspired to take a different course. With all the knowledge I had gained thus far as a mother to five children, as well as my product background, I really wanted to create something that would help and inspire others by connecting moms with moms, moms with brands, and encouraging mothers and women in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

I wanted to create a platform where I could help others by featuring inspiring content from inspiring women. With Mom’s Best we bring you the best in motherhood, lifestyle, business, fashion, design, and more.

Where do you find style inspiration for yourself (and your kids)?
I am inspired by classic and modern design and I love bright colors and patterns, but I still crave simplicity!  I’m not so much into the latest trends. Those get old real fast!
One thing I have learned is there are no set rules.  Don’t be afraid to combine the most unlikely of items because it just might look really good!

What are a few of your family’s favorite winter activities to do together?
Traditional Christmas tree cutting, ending with a hot dog roast and hot chocolate by the fire.  Sledding, going to the movies and making yummy treats…especially marshmallow popcorn with dots candy!

Minnetonka + Mill City Men

Meet Michael Dodes, founder of Mill City Men, a photographic journal of men’s street style and culture in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Minnetonka recently teamed up with Michael to create a lookbook of the men who live, work and play in their mocs.

What inspired you to start Mill City Men?
A few years ago, when quality, well-styled menswear became “a thing,” I realized that a lot of what I was seeing in WWD and coastal style blogs was already happening in Minneapolis/Saint Paul. I am blessed to be in an industry that is creative by nature, and saw that a lot of the men in my peer group literally looked like they walked off of those runways or out of those magazines.

I wanted to bring Minneapolis men’s style to the forefront and share it with the world and found that using real men was a far more engaging way to do so than seeing a model in an editorial. The name Mill City Men instantly popped into my head, and the blog was born.

Describe the style of a Mill City Man.
I don’t think there is a specific style aesthetic, it’s more of an attitude or “swagger” that can easily be recognized. The main telling of a Mill City Man is simply a confident guy who has already figured out his personal style. He knows what he looks good in and isn’t afraid to take a chance on trend. He cares for quality of his wardrobe, but wants to look effortless and classic.

There’s an easy, but utilitarian quality that is unique to menswear here, which is likely because of the climate we are in. The weather here allows MCM a huge variance in menswear, from sharp shorts walking down Nicollet in the summer to a puffer jacket playing hockey on Lake of the Isles in winter.

Whose style inspires you?
I wouldn’t say that I look to one specific person as a style icon. Much of what inspires me for my own style is simply utility (aka, I wear sweats every chance I get!). At this point in my life, I’ve already figured out a basic skeleton to what looks good on me, and then I throw in trendy stuff as it happens just to keep it fresh.

The men I feature on Mill City Men however, are far more stylish than I could ever hope to be! Case in point: my favorite outfit is skinny sweats from TopShop, a vintage Lion King crewneck and my Minnetonka Driving Mocs.

What are a few of your favorite places to go/things to do in Minneapolis/Saint Paul?
Whenever I have visitors from out of state, I bring them to Mill Ruins and Gold Medal Park. I absolutely love that area and think its a fantastic representation of the modern vibe of Minneapolis. I also really like the Tres Leches at French Meadow, any bento box from Obento-Ya and any drink made by Omar at The Bachelor Farmer (mainly the Vespar though).

Blogger Spotlight: SigneRoo

Today we are excited to welcome Signe, from the blog SigneRoo, as a guest contributor to the Minnetonka blog!

My name is Signe and I blog over at  I am so excited to be guest posting on Minnetonka today!  Even though I grew up in the South, I was born in Wisconsin and that Northern blood is flowing through my veins. Every year, we would travel up to the Wisconsin Dells and every year we would each get a new pair of Minnetonka moccasins. Which means my love for Minnetonka goes way back to teeny tiny moccasin feet.  So when Minnetonka reached out to me, I knew I wanted to do something a little different than the same old outfit photos.  And this time, I wanted my husband Chad to be involved.  (He’s normally the man behind the camera, and I wanted him to join me in this one!)

When brainstorming this collaboration, I decided I really wanted to embody what it is about Minnetonka that make moccasins a desired staple in every closet.  Chad and I live in the cutest little town in Texas, and we just recently purchased an old historic home right off the downtown square.  On the weekends, we enjoy strolling downtown for a little date at the bookstore, one of our favorite restaurants, or a little antique shopping. (Of course, there is always a trip to the candy store tucked away in there.)  So when I got down to it, I really wanted to capture a day in the life of Chad and I.

To me, Minnetonka moccasins are the perfect “every day, every way” shoe. They can literally be worn anywhere.  On a quick stroll through the lovely Fall foliage, on a date downtown, lounging around the house, work, play…you name it!  That’s what I love so much about them!  So, I hope you enjoy watching this video of  “A Date with Minnetonka” as much as we did creating it!
