Capturing the adventurous spirit of the everyday. As simple as a backyard bonfire or as bold as a cross-country road trip our Everyday Adventure series celebrates the big and small adventures of everyday life. Today's post comes from Joshua and Ashleigh of ARO.
Joshua and I had been planning a trip to New York City all summer. After spending five months traveling and camping throughout the Midwest and along the West Coast of the United States, we knew it was time for an East Coast adventure.
We grabbed our pup and pop-up camper and were off! We left all of our planning to be done on our drive there, which worked out perfectly. We found a campsite a little over an hour outside of New York City, and headed straight there so our city adventures could begin bright and early the next morning.
On our first day of adventuring in NYC, we packed a picnic lunch and headed to Central Park. We spent the afternoon walking through the park before finding the perfect spot for our picnic at Umpire Rock. It was best spot to see some of the city’s skyscrapers and watch people play baseball in the diamond nearby.
After spending a relaxing afternoon wandering through the park we headed to the Brooklyn Bridge to catch the sunset.
The next day we ventured to Times Square. There isn’t anything quite like walking into it. It’s chaotic in the most wonderful way and it has this magical feeling that we love.
We spent our last day exploring Battery Park, watching sailboats cruise around the Statue of Liberty, walking along the Hudson River, and finding fall colors all around the city.
After a quick lunch at Bleecker Street Pizza (which was amazing!) we ended another perfect day in Madison Square Park, sipping shakes from Shake Shack under dreamy string lights.
It was the perfect quick road trip to the city and, with very tired legs and very full hearts, it was time for our long journey home. See you next time NYC!
